Author: Liszt, Franz Published: 2008 Sir Frederick Ashton's ballet Marguerite and Armand set to an orchestrated version of Franz Liszt's only piano sonata, has had several different orchestrations during its life, but has never, as far as we know, been danced to the orchestration recorded here, made by the Hungarian composer Leó Weiner in 1955. Nonetheless, as the only available recording of an orchestral version of the Sonata, this CD will be welcomed by Ashton's many admirers. The CD also includes a performance of the original piano version of the work, played by the prizewinning Russian pianist Olga Kozlova. |
