Jupiter's Dance.
Published: The ghettos of Kinshasa - the devastated capital of an African country, the Democratic Republic of the Congo, politically and economically adrift - are filled with many gifted yet impoverished musicians, whose outstanding talent, humour, and energy are their only means of survival. Amongst them, Jupiter Bokondju, the charismatic leader of the band 'Okwess International', acts as narrator and guide on this DVD. He introduces us to the local music scene - teenage rappers, handicapped bluesmen, street children, griots and guitar craftsmen - and describes his twenty year struggle to bring his music out of the ghetto. Included with the DVD is a 48 minute CD of Jupiter's music. [Uncoded, for world-wide use on NTSC compatible equipment.] |
