Cover imageTop Hat; The Gay Divorcee. Fred Astaire & Ginger Rogers. [2 DVD set.]

Published:

Two of the best and most famous Astaire-Rogers musicals. In Top Hat, which has a fine score by Irving Berlin, Astaire plays a dancer, following Rogers, the girl of his dreams, from London to Venice in a (successful) attempt to win her heart. The wonderful Edward Everett Horton provides comedy backup. In The Gay Divorcee Ginger Rogers wants a divorce, so her eccentric aunt hires a professional to play the correspondent in apparent infidelity. American dancer Guy Holden (Astaire) meets her at her hotel in Brighton, and love blossoms. Edward Everett Horton and the young Betty Grable are memorable in 'Let's knock knees', and the two stars perform one of their greatest dance numbers, 'The Continental'. [Coded for region 2 only: the UK and Europe, Japan, the Middle East, Egypt, Greenland, and South Africa.]
