Gaite Parisienne. Alexandra Danilova, Frederic Franklin, Leon Danielian, the Ballet Russe de Monte Carlo.
Published: A compilation of various performances, filmed in the 1940s, by Danish-American ballet fanatic Victor Jessen, in thirty-second 'takes' with a silent movie camera. The fragments were then edited together and an audio recording dubbed in, to make up a complete performance. Picture and sound quality are thus not perfect, but the film provides a fascinating picture of one of the great ballet companies of the 20th century in live performance. The DVD also includes a documentary about the life and work of the photographer, Victor Jessen, and a long interview with the unstoppable Frederic Franklin.
