Cursive II. Cloud Gate Theatre of Taiwan.
Published: 2006 Inspired by the aesthetics of Chinese calligraphy, Cursive II leads the dancers into dialogue with calligraphic characters projected on to the stage backdrop and their own bodies. Lin Hwai-min's choreography places an extraordinary emphasis on breathing, and transposes the energy of calligraphic brush strokes onto dancing bodies in an abstract space. Danced to the music of John Cage, Cursive II consists of ten sections, most of which appear to flow into one another without visible or audible pause. The DVD also includes an introduction to the piece, and a documentary about the choreographer and his company. Uncoded, for world-wide use on NTSC compatible equipment. |
