Black Cake and Concertante. Bavarian State Ballet.
Author: van Manen, Hans Published: 2006 Black Cake takes place at a society party, where elegantly-dressed couples dance with each other and reveal unsuspected undercurrents in the relationships between men and women; both humour and aggression are found in Concertante, which generates an explosive tension in a succession of encounters between four male and four female dancers. Concertante is danced to the twentieth-century Swiss composer Frank Martin's Petite Sinfonie Concertante, while for Black Cake van Manen uses pieces by Tchaikovsky, Janácek, Stravinsky, Mascagni, and Massenet.
