Le Bourgeois Gentilhomme, comedie-ballet de Moliere et Lully. [2 DVD set.]
Published: 2005 A fascinating reconstruction of a performance of Molière and Lully's 'comédie-ballet' (to modern eyes more of a play with sung and danced interludes) performed in a small theatre, the stage lit by candles, with reflecting copper scenery. The dance content, with choreography by Cécile Roussat, is fairly slight; but nonetheless this is essential viewing for all those interested in 17th century French performance practice. Included as a bonus item is an hour-long documentary about rehearsals for the performance. [Uncoded, for use world-wide on PAL compatible equipment.] |
