Invisible dances ... from afar: a show that will never be shown.
Author: Bock & Vincenzi Published: 2005 On the 20th of March 2003, in a 'dark' theatre in London's West End, Bock & Vincenzi presented 'invisible dances ... from afar: a show that will never be shown'. There were only two people in the auditorium. The Watcher, who was recorded describing to an absent audience her experience of watching a show that no-one would ever see; and The Medium, who was invited to see if there was any other spirit audience in the theatre while the performance was in progress. Throughout the two hour show, nine performers explored the different relationships between the external body, communication technologies, and absence. Through personal ear pieces they responded to an assortment of texts played on cassette tapes, minidisks, video monitors, or stethoscope. The thirty-six images colour images in this book were taken with a camera set at the back of the stage, its shutter open for the full duration of each scene. At the top of the stairs, leading from the stage to the dressing rooms, sat a Witness who could hear but not see the performance. For the two hours she wrote about this. |
