Author: Moross, Jerome Published: 2002 'Frankie and Johnny' was commissioned by Ruth Page and choreographed by Bentley Stone (although Page choreographed most of her own role) for the Page-Stone Ballet in 1938, to considerable critcal acclaim. 'Willie the Weeper' is a dance cantata: 'the idea was to so mix the singing and dancing that you didn't know where the singers began or where the dancers ended' said the composer. It was first performed on Broadway in 1948, with choreography by Paul Godkin, as part of a triple bill of 'Ballet Ballads'. |
