The divine Virginia, a biography of Virginia Zucchi.
Author: Guest, Ivor Published: 1977 Virginia Zucchi was one of the most influential and inspirational dancers of the late 19th century. The first and greatest of a series of Italian ballerinas who dominated Russian ballet for some fifteen years, she raised the Imperial Ballet out of a state of torpor and growing public indifference, virtually singlehandedly in a single season. She awakened an enthusiasm for ballet in a number of young men who were to play key parts in Diaghilev's great enterprise, and became a model and inspiration for many great dancers, including Kschessinskaya and Gerdt. |
