Front Line. Henri Oguike Dance Company.
Published: 2003 Please note that due to copyright complications there is no DVD of this video available: it is issued only as a VHS video. Henri Oguike's Front Line, first performed in 2002, is a piece set to Shostakovich's 9th String Quartet. The moods are constantly shifting, the instruments squeal like animals and engage in wild stamping dances. Elsewhere there is anger followed by listlessness. 'A perfect example of how Oguike digs into the fabric of a composition, using it for an exploration of rhythm that his six thrillingly willing dancers then claim as their own.' The Times, 2003. There are two recordings of the work on this video: the first is a multi camera recording of the piece using closer shots where appropriate, the second is taken with a static wide shot camera showing the whole stage throughout. Front Line is the GCSE Performing Arts: Dance set work for 2006 and 2007, and an accompanying workbook, for teachers and their students, Henri Oguike's Front Line, creative insights is available separately. The music used to accompany the dance, Shostakovich's 9th String Quartet, is available on a separate CD. |
