Beaumont's 1928 publication, translated into English by Derra de Moroda, of the classic treatise on commedia dell'arte performance, published in 1716, with 101 engravings by Georg Puschner. The illustrations depict a variety of themes ranging from light comedy to outright buffoonery: each plate features a short passage of musical accompaniment and hand-lettered German captions (an English translation is provided). The author states the theme and air for each dance and offers suggestions for steps: the engravings convey the atmospheric steps and costumes. |
