Coppelia. Charline Giezendanner, Mathieu Ganio, Pierre Lacotte, Paris Opera Ballet School.
Published: 2003 An interesting curiosity: this is not the usual version of Coppelia, but a reconstruction, by Pierre Lacotte and Claude Bessy, of the version staged by Albert Aveline, probably in the 1930s (although Frantz is not performed as a travesty role). The performance was filmed at the Palais Garnier in 2001: Lacotte himself is a rather muted Coppelius, but the students of the Paris Opera School are charming. However, as in all French versions of the period, the entire act 3 is omitted, so those looking for the complete ballet should go elsewhere. The DVD also includes a much earlier (late 1980s?) documentary about the Paris Opera Ballet School. [Coded for world wide use on PAL compatible players.] |
