Laban for all.
Author: Newlove, Jean & John Dalby Published: 2003 Rudolf Laban was one of the great theorists and practitioners of movement. He laid down a system for analysing the way the human body moves in space, and ascribed values to its movements, releasing the expressive power contained in each of them. Laban for all offers a simplified version of his system which can be used by relative beginners and more experienced practitioners. We are introduced to the Kinesphere (the personal space surrounding each one of us), the Dimensional Cross (a way of describing movement in three dimensions), Pathways and Trace Forms, Levels and Zones, etc. Each new term is accompanied by specific exercises designed to strengthen and deepen the reader's understanding, and when the basic vocabulary has been grasped, the book moves on to the expressive possibilities of Laban's system in drama and dance. |
