Native American dance steps.
Author: Evans, Bessie & May G Evans Published: 1931, 2003 Details of the varied steps that groups of Native Americans have used to express their dance ideas - from skips, jumps, and hop steps to a form of the pas de bourrée. While many of the characteristics noted are typical of Indian dance-art in general, this study is concerned chiefly with elements of the art as practiced among certain Pueblo tribes of New Mexico. In addition to describing the choreography of typical Indian dances of the Southwest, there are examples of Indian dance music, words, and descriptive sounds that accompany this music. Authentic illustrations by a Native American artist depict dancers; outline figures characterize steps and postures. |
